Assignment Five is a character interview, happily this coincides with the start of my second novel. I have been wondering how to do a recap of a previous novel at the start of a second one. I didn't want to just recap the previous book and take people out of the story flow.
“Please state your name for the record Miss.”
“Please state your name for the record Miss.”
“Charli Niven”
“Do you understand that this is not an interrogation, merely a conversation to ascertain more information?”
“I understand sir that you think that yes.”
“Ahem, indeed. Now, according to the witness you appeared in one of the biovats. Is that correct?”
“Yes, sir.”
“How did you come to be in the vat Miss Niven?”
“I got transported there by my pistol in order to save my life.”
“And this pistol belongs to you does it?”
“Not really, we’re friends.”
“I see…I am struggling here Miss, help me out please. How is it that you are paired with a class A2@ when they are in fact not yet released?”
“We resonated when I picked her up on a tour of the Ancient Tech Wing of the Guardians of Hope safe house.”
“Indeed Miss, you told the Dossier Agent this as well but none of us can find anything on this ‘Guardians of Hope’ at all.”
“As I told Dossier Agent Wurster he wouldn’t since it is a different time and place. I imagine I am breaking all the rules of time travelling. But since we seem to be chatting in an underground bunker it doesn’t matter much.”
“Now Miss we have been over this before…”
“Yeah yeah, so you guys keep saying.”
“Very well, moving on then. What circumstances led to you being transported here?”
“I was tied to an altar and being bled out systematically by a nutcase who thought he could bring back the first vampire. My boyfriend’s ghost put Vici in my hand and she transported us.”
“Uh huh, now you can see how I have difficulty accepting and understanding that don’t you?”
“Sure, I just don’t care anymore. I have told you people this many times now.”
“Miss Niven say I believe you, why did this man target you specifically?”
“I have a genetic mutation that makes me different. He tried the same thing with other founding family members but none of them survived.”
“Right, and then your boyfriend’s ghost put the class A2@ in your hand which brought you here?”
“Yes, look I have said this all to DA Wurster and then again to another set of DA’s. Repeating it over and over is getting old and worn out.”
“I understand you are feeling frustrated Miss but please understand. We have never encountered anything like this before and so there is no set procedure to follow. Honestly we are winging it at this point.”
“I get that Commander but I am not willing to sit here and help you figure out procedure! I have been locked up, my friend taken away and so far I haven’t even been offered anything to drink or eat.”
“I am so sorry Miss Niven, of course that will be taken care of right away. Ben! Bring the lady some water and food!”
“Thank you Commander.”
